Port Gaverne Tractor. Oil on canvas. 78 x 78 cms.
Port Gaverne Tractor is used to tow the boats into and from the sea at all tides. It is parked overlooking Port Gaverne bay. I set up the canvas in the undergrowth behind the tractor, with a view of the Fish Cellars and my cottage and studio beyond. That’s my chimney on the left. Early summer. ‘Padstows Pride’ flowers in full bloom. The tractor has a very distinct personality. The ‘Guardian Angel’ of Port Gaverne.

Delabole Slate 2. Oil on canvas.. 60 x 75 cms.
Painted on the coast near Delabole , Cornwall, famed for its slate quarry. The jagged outcrops of slate and its underlying strata meet the turbulent turquoise sea. This is the view from the end of the road which was cut through the rock to enable the slate from Delabole to be transported, on horse and cart, to ships moored in Port Gaverne, which then delivered the slate internationally. Deep dark slate. Emerald sea. Bright Cornish light.
